Introduction

Eighteen months ago, I saw the first in a long time to review the fans gotech.life. Then the first dozen "stodvadtsatok" has been tested on the new methodology.

At this time, you will find a test report "stosorokovok". Tests fans such dimension on our site was not yet. However, they currently are, perhaps, the most interesting for overclockers. The market appears more and more cooling systems and enclosures to be installed 140-millimeter "turntables". And the question of choosing the best of them is becoming increasingly acute.

I tried to collect the most representative group. A few fans even had to buy their own. The result was considered together fourteen "stosorokovok" ten different manufacturers.

These "pinwheel" were tested in the same manner and on the same stand as the Dozen "stodvadtsatok" last time. I will not dwell on it again (this is a link to a detailed description) and immediately proceed to review the current test participants.

AeroCool Shark 14

As in the previous article, we begin with AeroCool Shark Fan. Only this time, not in the 120- and 140-millimeter version.

Oh, and another color - not blue, and red (the manufacturer calls his «evil red»).

His name all the family "turntables" derives from the characteristic shape - in the form of shark fin - edges of fifteen blades. As planned by the manufacturer, it should improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the fans.

  • Extension resistor that reduces the rotation speed "stosorokovki" with regular 1500 RPM to 800;

It looks good and the fan itself. Its translucent glossy red blades with the mentioned "fins" looked fresh and unusual. And besides, there are lights of the same color. Disable it is impossible, but with a decrease in fan speed, it becomes less bright.

The manufacturer claims that the fan is based on hydrodynamic bearings that combines the advantages of the sleeve (silence) and ball bearings (long life). Not bad for a "pinwheel", which can be purchased in the Moscow retail for less than 300 rubles.

When powered by a 12 V it must be rotated at 1500 RPM (+/- 10 %) and consume no more than 0.36 A (4.32 W), providing a flow rate at 96.5 CFM and holding noise within 29.6 dBA.

Under different fan load upon application of the same voltage is rotated at a slightly different speed. I am repelled by turns, so always adjust them with an accuracy of +/- 5 RPM.

When connected via the supplied adapter with resistor AeroCool Shark speed can be lowered to 800 RPM. This is almost double the fan reduces productivity (up to 50 CFM). But the declared noise level drops even more significantly - to 14.5 dBA.

I with the help of computer fan control could cause it to rotate at all at 450 RPM. For this it was necessary to submit to the fan 2.4 V. Surprisingly, when the same voltage, and it will start. I remember that 120-millimeter version could not boast of such an "easy-going".

As AeroCool Shark 12 chetyrnadtsatimillimetrovy fan unpleasantly surprised by their hysterical howling at speeds starting at 800. In these modes it is noticeably noisier than the rest of the test. Another dimension, and the marriage again? Hardly seems really not the best bearing (but still "fluid dynamics" is called ...). Considering that I value the performance, based on the noise level, this fan also will be difficult to hope for a decent performance.

However, because of its excellent bearing drowns out all other noise (primarily the aerodynamic), with the same speed of 140-mm fan was only minimally "louder" the same "stodvadtsatki". So, if he shows a marked increase in productivity, it will be able to compete for getting into the middle group of test participants.

So I will not get ahead of ourselves.

Next - consumption figures, too, depending on the RPM. The three modes: no additional load ( « W / o radiator » in the graphs), and a fan placed over the radiators Thermalright Archon and AXP-140 :

Made a couple of paragraphs ago, the assumption is fully confirmed. AeroCool Shark CPU 14 provides for a couple of degrees more comfortable temperature than its "younger brother".

The rest of the data will not comment yet, let's wait for at least the next appearance of the fan test results.

Enermax T.B.Silence UCTB14

Before us again "relative" one of the participants of the last test. At this time - representative of the family TBSilence eminent Taiwanese Enermax. But if AeroCool Shark 12 and 14 - almost twins, differing only in its size, and the UCTB12 UCTB14 - at best, second cousins ​​cousins.

But do not be upset ahead of time. After all, the shape of the impeller TBSilence UCTB14 borrows from another fan Enermax - Apollish Vegas. The latter became one of the leaders of the last test (while UCTB12, on the contrary, showed a rather average results).

Nor is there any illumination, nor any means for adjusting the fan speed. However, the nominal rotation speed Enermax TBSilence UCTB14 and so small - only 750 RPM. When connected to a 12, he should consume no more than 1.8 W (0.15 A), to ensure consumption at the level of 45.4 CFM and a noise is not stronger than 15.0 dBA. In addition, the manufacturer does not conceal, and the static pressure "pinwheel". It stated at the level of 0.882 mm water column.

The only noticeable deterioration compared with UCTB12 starting voltage of 140-mm version of the fan has been greatly enlarged. My copy is spinning only upon application of 8.9 V. 3.0 V Compare with "stodvadtsatki". But with a resulting decrease UCTB14 voltage could cause to spin at a very low rate - only 130 revolutions per minute.

And then, finally, the first novelty. In the past, testing has participated once two "stodvadtsatki» GlacialTech. But family GlacialStars IceWind stands out from the total number of fans of the Taiwanese company.

The rest of the majority - the usual matte black semilopastnye "pinwheel". And these - glossy; wherein, in 140-mm blades 11 at once:

Well, a definite plus GlacialTech GlacialStars IceWind 14, of course, you can call it a low price.

Starting voltage stated at the level of 6.0 V. In fact, in my case, both provided by the manufacturer, and bought in an ordinary shop GlacialTech GlacialStars IceWind 14 copies started with the 5.1 (which is under light load corresponding to about 660 revolutions per minute). A continued to spin at all when the voltage drops to 2.6 (≈260 RPM).

Fans GlacialStars IceWind produced in all the major form factors, ranging from 40 x 40 x 10 mm and ending test "stosorokovkoy" 25 mm thick.
